Learn Japanese through a series of fun, interactive courses designed just for kids! This fall, we are offering new exploratory sessions for children ages 3-5 and 6-10.
These courses will be conducted online via Zoom. To participate fully, you will need access to a device with internet, microphone, and camera (such as a laptop, smartphone, or tablet). Further instructions will be provided before the course begins in September. Please note that all times listed are New York time (EDT/UTC-04:00).

Young learners explore Japanese language and culture through a seasonal and theme-based curriculum filled with storytelling, songs, games and interactive activities (PDF). Children will gain basic vocabulary and understanding through fun, online activities.
Tuition: $165/$125 Japan Society members. Adult accompaniment required. Space is limited to 10 students: advanced registration required.

Using a theme-based curriculum, children will learn everyday Japanese through a variety of age-appropriate activities, games, songs, and engaging activities. In addition to listening, speaking, basic reading and writing skills are introduced in a fun and supportive environment.

About the Instructor: Asuka Morinaga is a professional theater artist from Hiroshima, Japan. Asuka graduated from the Toho Gakuen drama department and was a member of the Haiyuza Theater Company in Tokyo. In addition to acting and voice-over work, she has been an educator for many years and is actively involved in developing education programs between NYC and Japan, as well as leading Creative Play workshops with the Education Department at Japan Society. In 2020, Asuka became a resident teaching artist at Ping Chong + Company and continues to work as an educator at Japanese schools in NYC.
Terms & Conditions: Tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable for any reason after 12 PM EDT on Monday, September 21. No partial registration is permitted. Cancellations are accepted by phone or email. Japan Society also reserves the right to cancel any course if sufficient enrollment is not obtained.
